HTC surges ahead: The Vive Pro is set to be the best VR headset out there
It’s been a while since we’ve seen news of a new commercial headset that really pushes the tech forward. Since the release of the original Vive and Rift nearly 2 years ago, the focus of the industry has been on increasing accessibility; justifiably so, but also not all too exciting for those eager to see the true potential of VR.
Tonight the next big thing was announced: The HTC Vive Pro. Here are the key features of this upcoming premium headset:
2880 x 1600 resolution, OLED dual screens Dual forward-facing cameras Noise cancelling mic Integrated hi-fi audio with on-board amp Wireless Improved headstrap "Lighthouse 2.0"
The price has yet to be announced, but now that the original Vive and Rift have shifted down to somewhat more reasonable price points, HTC have clearly seen room for another £700+ device. There’s also the new Touch-like Vive motion controllers still in the works, so it’s likely that this new Vive will be the centerpiece of the next premium bundle.
All in all, the specs above clearly suggest that the Vive Pro will be the top-end of the top-end when it comes to the full VR experience. Will Oculus counter with an intermediate headset of their own, or are they content to keep pushing their cheaper device until Rift 2.0 is ready?
